Symptoms
After applying a service update from Microsoft Content Studio stops working and a message like
Server.CreateObject failed (Error -2147221005, Internal server error) is displayed.
Cause
This problem can occur if the service update uninstalled a system component that Content Studio depends on. We have seen several installations where MSXML4 is uninstalled or disabled.
To determine what component is affected you can run the Site Content Manager utility that gets installed with Content Studio. After connecting to the correct machine you can examine the installation by pressing the "Check Server installation" button. If the MSXML4 is disabled you will be notified.
Resolution
If the problem is related to MSXML4 please download and install the latest version of MSXML4 from Microsofts website at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=3144b72b-b4f2-46da-b4b6-c5d7485f2b42&DisplayLang=en.
Status
We have seen this problem on a small number of servers running Microsoft Server 2003 Sp1 or Microsoft Server 2003 R2.
